Description
Behold the lowly accordion polka, and also it's wart-covered cousins played on clarinet or violin, gettin' some lovin' from Ian Nagoski (Canary/To What Strange Place). Chipper village dances & party tunes that helped miners, day laborers & other sods from Poland & the Ukraine take a load off after their 15 hour backbreaking, lung-damaging workdays. And no time like the present employment environment to revisit their restorative power. Some well known virtuosos like Naftule Brandwein & Pawlo Humeniuk, but mostly just lots of forgotten folks with too many consonants in their names, whose loftiest goal was making their neighbors merry. The label is run by Nate Wooley, & it's also the name of his online magazine. Tracklisting: Pennsylvenijos Anglekasei-Butkiskiu Polka, Albina Lietuvnikaite & Worcesterio Lietuviska Orkestra-Lietuvisko Lkiubo, John Baczkowski Wiejska Orkiestra-Oberek Wywijac, Orkiestra Feltana-Nabok Hej, Orkiestra Majkuta-Wsciekla Polka, Hrajut Petro Korba & Petro Dudra/Compania S Shkimba-Muzuka Vdovoj, Braci Balabanowych-Polka Francuszka, Bruno Kaminski-Oberek Na Coraco, Wladyslaw Podoszek-Czerniskeowska, Edward Mika-Polka Przed Objadem, Wladyslaw Polak-Dzieci w Krateczki, Stanislaw Mermel-Spiewy na Przeprowadzenie, Naftule Brandwein-A Hora Mit Tzibeles, Ukrainska Siczowa Orch Surma-Arkan Hutzulski Tanee, Pawlo Humeniuk-Oj Diwczyno Diwczynonku, Konstantina Sadovnika & Krestyanskyj Orkestr-Russkyj Kazatchok.
