Description
This record is a collection of rare and unreleased material, mostly recorded between the release of her second and third album. As such, it can be seen as the missing link between the rather droney second record, and the starker Jessica Bailiff record.

Coming from the Belgian Morc label alongside the utterly flawless soccer Committee album comes this bumper collection of tracks from Kranky's Jessica Bailiff and, may I say, what a treat it is to finally have these very special pieces of music in one easy to stomach package. Taken from exclusive vinyl releases, compilation appearances and containing one special unreleased track, this collection brings together some of Bailiff's finest and most awe-inspiring moments and sees her on a much more dreamy tip than on any of her 'proper' albums. I was introduced to her sound with the fabulous 'Clear Horizon' album on Kranky a few years back, a collaborative effort alongside the great David Pearce of Flying Saucer Attack, where her breathy, almost ghost-like vocals echoed like distant memories over his shimmering guitar feedback. Here we see her on similar form with eleven gentle moments of glorious dream-pop beginning with the gorgeous instrumental 'Your Sounds Make Patterns In My Eyes'. This frames the album marvellously with slowly building waves of guitar over a thick bass tone (think Stars of the Lid) and is the perfect way to introduce Bailiff's work. Elsewhere we get the noisy shoegaze of "helpless" which pits her cracking voice against the kind of crunching guitars you need a board of Electro-Harmonix pedals to achieve and 'Crush' which actually reminds me of Lush (which isn't a really really great thing!). I'd even go as far as saying that this is my favourite Jessica Bailiff release, flowing from beginning to end effortlessly with perfectly formed little one-offs that are like getting a box of Quality Street filled only with the chocolates you love. Lovely stuff - a massive recommendation.
