Description
Entitled “Asylum”, this Boston, Massachusetts contingent have been known (in their somewhat-short career) to create some of the heaviest, most absorbing, and overwhelming sounds in heavy music today. Sounds that mirror the vibe bands like Neurosis had back in their “Souls At Zero” and “Enemy Of The Sun” days. Formed by Milosz Gassan (ex-Filth Of Mankind) in 2005 (MORNE also features ex-Grief guitarist Jeff Hayward amongst its ranks), it didn’t take long for MORNE to become a notable force within the modern-day crust, punk, and hardcore movement, and naturally comparisons to classic Neurosis would surface as MORNE’s sound would also inevitably cross over into doom and post metal territories respectively. Nonetheless, “Asylum” is MORNE’s heaviest, most atmospheric and cinematic sonic offering to date. While still maintaining the band’s crust, hardcore, and post-metal leanings, “Asylum” sees the band delve more into genres such as progressive metal and classic ‘70s prog rock, as well as neo-classical chamber (Kris Force of AMBER ASYLUM once again makes a guest appearance, this time being accompanied by JARBOE on the album’s closing track ‘Volition’) classic ‘80s post-punk (i.e. Joy Division, Cure) and some influence from classic art rock (i.e. Swans, Fields Of The Nephilhim).
